Two types of land use documents are in place in the Royal District Planning Commission. The Rural Plans is the most recent format for land use control under the provincial Community Planning Act.

The majority of land use plans in the Royal District Planning Commission are in this Rural Plan format which are more detailed than the predecessor to the Rural Plan, which was the Basic Planning Statement.

There are three older land use plans in Royal District Planning Commission in the Basic Planning Statement.
